Dawn Moor Hens, Fly Catchers and Frog Choruses Across HQ Pond, SMNWR
Four hours mid-spring (May) pre-dawn to post sunrise wildlife calls across the freshwater marsh-like Headquarters Pond in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (SMNWR). The audio begins with pig, Rana grylio, leopard, Lithobates sp. and green tree, Hyla cinerea, frogs calling (advertising). Moor hens, Gallinula sp., redwing blackbirds, Agelaius phoeniceus, and fly-catchers such as the great crested flycatcher, Myiarchus crinitus add their morning rather exotic chorus calls throughout the audio clip with southern field crickets, Gryllus spp. sharing their background trills. I particularly am attracted to this lengthy wildlife recording as the species expressions are melodically complimentary and with the exception of occasional loud but interesting pig frog grunts, making for excellent atmospheric background nature audio. Wildlife audio can deliver significant interpretative educational content. The SMNWR is located a significant distance from major highways and is free from most human generated noise pollution. Airplane and boat motor and the occasional automobile sounds do heard from time to time but there are many lengthy stretches of quite pure nature ambience. Sony PCM D10, Clippy stereo microphones, windscreens and dry bags.
