Shay #2: Idle 1

Description

Shay #2 idling at depot: water, steam. Shay #2 is a made steam powered, geared locomotive manufactured by Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. Shay #2 is now owned by Mountain Rail West Virginia and used for scenic tourist excursions out of Cass, West Virginia USA. For more about this particular locomotive see <a href="https://mountainrailwv.com/shay-2/" rel="nofollow">this page</a>. Recorded 23 August 2025 at 96 kHz sample rate, 32 bit floating point. Equipment used was a Josephson C700S microphone and Sound Devices MixPre-10 II. In post, this sound was encoded to ORTF stereo with Harpex and converted to 24 bit after setting levels.
