There are more in the water. A little way ahead, out of microphone range, two neighborhood peers with too much time and huge cameras are catching a glimpse of a Great Gray Shrike. They had an overview card with them on which it was written where the Great Gray Shrike should be and asked me for directions. So around here, I said. I'm not a spotter or connoisseur so I don't know if I accidentally spotted the Great Gray Shrike in this hour. Across the fen I hear the "spring carpenter" Woodpecker. Several birds are singing as if it's already May, but it's only mid-February 2023. A freight train races towards the industry.
